Our Story

How We Started

"Myom" is culled from Myom U Ter which means Salvation of the Lord. Myom Community Outreach exists to create awareness about health education, conduct community-based interventions, share the Gospel, and counsel people. Afa Ikparen founded Myom Community Outreach in December 2021 to help people live well by having access to quality healthcare after God healed her from an ovarian cyst and fibroids.

Afa also lost an aunt to cervical cancer as a result of a late diagnosis. It totally broke her heart to hear that an early diagnosis could have gone a long way in keeping her alive a little longer. It became a pain point for her, and she began to think of ways to help more people live well. That was how Myom Community Outreach was born.

What we stand for

Our Vision

Impactfully reach communities in Nigeria with sustainable access to basic and qualitative primary healthcare. Our vision is to expand our reach by impactfully reaching a minimum of 15 communities in Nigeria, forging strong partnerships with churches and hospitals to guarantee sustainable access to basic and quality primary healthcare, complementing our services with self-management training and workshops, and ultimately establishing our own hospital to ensure free or subsidized care is available year-round.

Afa Ikparen

Founder & Executive Director

Afa Ikparen is the Founder of Myom Community Outreach, a Christian faith–driven initiative dedicated to helping individuals and families in underserved communities live healthier, fuller lives. Her passion for community health is rooted in her personal healing from ovarian cysts and fibroids, and the loss of her aunt to cervical cancer—experiences that inspired her to ensure others have access to timely care and lifesaving information.

Since establishing Myom in December 2021, Afa has led outreaches that have reached thousands of people with free medical care, medicines, and health education, working closely with partner organizations and churches. She holds a Master’s in Public Health and works actively in health policy, program development, business development, and community engagement.

Afa also mentors young public health professionals, helping to build a new generation of skilled and compassionate health leaders. Her work is anchored in faith, service, and compassion, and she continues to champion the belief that everyone deserves the chance to live well.
